ADVERTISING GUIDELINES

The following advertising guidelines have been adopted by the National Employment Counseling Association (NECA).

  1. There is no First Amendment requirement to run an ad.
  2. Ads should be for products, services and information of interest to NECA Newsletter readers.
  3. Ads are always subject to approval and change.
  4. Just because NECA prints an ad, it doesn’t mean NECA endorses the advertiser, service or product advertised.
  5. If material reads like an ad, NECA will mark it as an advertisement if the advertiser does not.
  6. Advertisers and their agencies assume liability for the content of an ad printed and will assume responsibility for any claims that may arise from their advertising.
  7. Advertisers may not, without NECA’s prior consent, incorporate in a subsequent ad the fact that a product or service has been advertised in NECA’s publication.
  8. NECA will not print employment ads that discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, disability or age. Ads must be consistent with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Equal Employment Opportunity).
  9. NECA can refuse ads. It will have a legitimate reason for refusing ads such as: The ad is judged to be offensive; the ad does not relate to the profession NECA represent.
  10. NECA has an obligation to refuse ads if it knows the organization placing the ad is "negligent." For example: Money is sent in for a product which is never received.
